Workday Financials - Product Design Internship
As a product design intern, I was part of the UX Financials team, working on designs for Workday's procurement product to create a seamless desktop and mobile experience. For 12 weeks, I worked alongside other designers and product managers to incorporate innovative design patterns in order to address the complexity of enterprise software.
Note: Unfortunately, I am unable to publicly share the details of the projects I worked on; only my thoughts, experiences, and lessons learned throughout the internship! However, if you would like to know more about my experience at Workday, please email me.
MY internship timeline
I was able to work on one main project and another smaller project in the last few weeks of my internship. Below is a rough timeline of my 12 weeks at Workday (mid-June to beginning of September).
what i learned
Communication - not only did I learn how to communicate with designers and product managers, but I also learned how to advocate for my design decisions
The importance of storytelling - I discovered the power of storytelling as a way to engage an audience and to talk about the experience and interactions with a design through the perspective of the user.
Giving and receiving critique - this is such an important skill to have because it is such an embedded part of the design process and it involves putting egos aside in order to come up with the best product possible.
Becoming a more confident designer - as a young designer, there is a lot of self-doubt and constantly wondering whether you are good enough. Coming out of this internship, I truly feel like I am in the right field and have recognized my self-worth.
Build relationships with people - over the course of 12 weeks, I made connections with so many wonderful, talented individuals who will continue to inspire me as I delve further into my design career. I've grown so much not only as a designer, but also as a person through these interactions.
I cannot thank Workday and my mentors enough for such an amazing intern experience. I can't wait to take these lessons that I've learned and apply them to wherever I may end up in the future!
